A modern reconstruction of a solid cast bronze Valkyrie figurine based on findings from HÃ¥rby. From the southwest side of the Danish island of Funen. The original piece was discovered by an amateur metal detectorist on the site of an old metal works. Believed to be dated from circa A.D 800. The figurine was also originally thought to have been a pendant.

The bronze Valkyrie museum figurine is partly gilded, with other areas coloured black by niello — a mixture of copper, silver, and lead sulphides — used as an inlay. She’s depicted wearing a long patterned dress and carrying a double-edged Viking sword in her right hand, as well as a shield to protect her body in her left.

The original bronze Valkyrie figurine can be viewed in the National Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark.

A Valkyrie was believed to come down after battle had commenced. They would choose who were deemed worthy, to finally go to Odin in Valhalla or to Freya in Folkvangr once they died.

These bronze statues make ideal altar pieces and are easily transported.

  • Height approx. 8 cm.

We also stock Thor, Odin and Freyr, all museum replicas made from solid cast bronze.
