The sixth of the Yule Lads slips into the world on the eve of December 17th, a quiet prowler of shadow and woodsmoke. He is the one who hides beneath beds, lying in wait where the firelight cannot reach and is called Askasleikir – Bowl Licker.

In the old days, when folk set their askur—the cherished wooden bowl used for every meal—upon the floor before retiring, he would creep forth on long, silent limbs.

With a grin sharp as frost, he would seize the askur and devour whatever remained within, leaving only the echo of his mischief in the still night air. Thus he roamed each winter, a spectral guest of the household, ever hungering for the humble remnants of mortal meals.
