Seated Bragi Figurine

Seated Bragi figurine depicting the Norse god of music and poetry and husband of the Norse goddess Idunna, ‘Goddess of Eternal Youth’. Bragi was believed to have had Runes carved on his tongue which can be seen on the back of the statue. To the side can be seen his drinking vessel commonly known as ‘Bragarfull’, the ‘Cup of Bragi’ over which oaths are sworn.

This seated Bragi figurine shows him holding an instrument called a Lyre. “The musical instrument he is playing was inspired by a carving around the portal of the Hylestad Stave Church in Setesdal, Norway.” [Paul Borda]
